When an abscess forms around a
hair follicle it’s called a boil - A severe abscess is a
carbuncle. Abscesses, boils and carbuncles occur when the
skin’s defense systems have been breached and a bacterial
infection has begun. Abscesses can occur anywhere in the body,
even in inner organs such as the lungs or appendix. In the
skin, abscesses are more likely to develop after a small cut
or puncture wound and where tight clothing rubs against the
skin. A common location is the finger beside the nail bed,
where tiny injuries cause infections.
Not everyone is susceptible to
abscesses and boils. Underlying causes for recurring problems
are blood impurities, poor nutrition and weak resistance.
Diabetics with high blood-sugar levels, as well as obese
persons, have lowered resistance. A diet containing junk food,
deep-fried food, which can increase the likelihood of boils
and abscesses. Women who have just given birth are more prone
to abscesses and young men have a tendency towards boils.
NUTRITION
Avoid pork, junk food, saturated fats and fried food. . These
foods form toxic wastes which make the body prone to infection
and abscesses.
Use the healing power of
carrots, spinach, kale, green beans, peas and other orange and
green vegetables to help boils and abscesses clear up quickly.
Eat these vegetables raw to provide enzymes, which increase
metabolism and stimulate immunity. These vegetables are
particularly rich in beta-carotene, which plays an important
role in rebuilding tissues. They are also good sources of
vitamin C, which is highly effective in fighting infection and
boosting immune response. Orating or juicing will break down
the cellulose tissue and make beta-carotene more available to
the body.
Ideally, begin treatment by
fasting for 24 to 72 hours with the juice of fruits rich in
beta-carotene-apricots, cantaloupe and mangos-to flush the
body of toxins. Beta-carotene is highly sensitive to oxygen
and light, so drink juices immediately after they have been
pressed. After the fast, continue to support the
detoxification process by drinking plenty of fluids, including
fresh spring water, herb teas and diluted vegetable and fruit
juices.
Every meal should feature a
salad of raw, orange or green vegetables. Always include some
nuts or seeds for added zinc. Zinc not only enhances immune
system function, but also releases stored vitamin A from the
liver. Raw, un-roasted, un-salted pumpkin seeds are the best
food sources of zinc.
Oatmeal is another good zinc
source. Begin the day with a Swiss muesli made with soaked
rolled oats and apricots or cantaloupe. Add wheat germ,
sesame, pumpkin or sunflower seeds and yogurt or milk. This
breakfast provides beta-carotene, zinc and vitamin C, as well
as the immune system stimulants vitamin B6 and
iron.
Plain, unsweetened yogurt or
other lactic-acid fermented food such as kefir, fermented
red-beet juice or sauerkraut should be eaten daily, especially
if antibiotics have been administered. These foods replenish
friendly bacteria destroyed by antibiotics.
