is caused
by a fungal infection. The fungus lives on the skin and
breeds under warm, moist conditions. Athlete's foot is
more common during hot weather and sweaty footwear is
usually the culprit. Generally, adult males suffer most
often from this condition. SYMPTOMS
cracked and
peeling areas between the toes
redness and
scaling on the soles of the feet
intense
itching
small
blisters that ooze clear fluid
burning
sensation
yellow,
thickened toenails
Many
people with mild athlete's foot find they can treat
themselves very effectively. It may take a while for all
signs of the infection to disappear completely but it
will quickly improve if you keep the areas dry.
If your condition should become more severe,
more uncomfortable, look very red and angry, you may have
another type of skin problem. In this case, you should
consult a physician.
If you
work outside and wear heavy boots and socks, change to
clean socks half way through the day. Avoid wearing
overshoes, tennis shoes and rubber footwear when
possible. Wear breathable footwear whenever possible.
