Environmentally safe solutions for waste management, waste water treatment & environmental cleanup.

Typically, in waste treatment environments i.e. waste lagoons, compost facilities, oil spill cleanup sites, waste water treatment plants, etc., biological activity is a function of the nutrients available to sustain and develop healthy biomass. EC-4000 is a non bacterial concentrate formulated to stimulate microbial activity in both aerobic and anaerobic environments. Unlike bacterial treatments, EC-4000 is not adversely affected by low temperatures.

EC-4000 is an environmentally safe Micronutrient Biostimulant formulated for use in waste water treatment plants, manure lagoons, oil spill cleanup sites, sewage treatment plants, municipal landfills, hydrocarbon bioremediation projects, composting facilities etc. EC-4000 is derived from natural plant extracts. It is non-toxic, non-caustic, non-corrosive, non-flammable

MANURE HOLDING PONDS, LAGOONS & OPEN TANKS

When used as directed, EC-4000 will reduce ammonia, hydrogen sulphide and other noxious gases, and will liquefy the solid sludge in the manure holding ponds, lagoons and open tanks.

Initial Application Rate (Typical)
1. Dilute at a rate of 1/20 in water.
2. Spray the diluted solution over the surface of the lagoon, pond or open tank at a rate of 80 ML / m3 * of wastewater.  Apply once per week for 4 weeks or until desired odor control is achieved.

Maintenance Application Rate (Typical)
1. Dilute at a rate of 1/20 in water.
2. Spray the diluted solution over the surface of the lagoon, pond or open tank at a rate of 40 ml / m3  * of wastewater.  Apply once per week

*1 Cubic Meter = 264.2 Gallons

NOTE: Application rates may vary depending on genetics, type of feed and environmental conditions.

MANURE PILES
Dilute at a rate of 1/50 in water and spray the manure as it is formed into static piles or spread on the land. Typical application rate: 1 litre of diluted solution / 1 cubic meter of manure. Application rates may vary depending on animal type, genetics, type of feed and environmental conditions.

SEWERS & LIFT STATIONS
Strong odor, resulting from hydrogen sulfide generation, putrefying wastewater and slime build up on concrete surfaces, is a common problem associated with treatment plants and lift stations. To eliminate or reduce odor emissions (1) spray EC-4000 concentrate or diluted solution, onto concrete surfaces of lift station structures (2) meter EC-4000 concentrate into lift station and sewage flows at a rate of 1 to 5 PPM. For wet scrubbers using chlorine etc. substitute a solution consisting of 1 part EC-4000/200 parts water. When used as directed, EC-4000 can reduce or eliminate the need for activated carbon in lift station odor treatment.

GRIT CHAMBERS
To eliminate or reduce odors from grit chambers, (1) meter EC-4000 concentrate into grit chambers or (2) spray a diluted solution onto screens or (3) meter EC-4000 concentrate into the sewage influent. Typical metering rate, 3 to 5 PPM. Typical dilution rate, 1/200.

AERATION CHAMBERS & PONDS
Most sewage treatment plants utilize stabilization ponds, aerated ponds, or aerated activated sludge secondary treatment plants to digest the biodegradable component in wastewater. The efficiency of these systems is dependant upon microbial activity within the treatment environment. When used as directed, EC-4000 can (1) increase process microbial activity (2) reduce odors from aerosol formation and (3)aid in controlling filamentous organisms, which produce foaming and poor settling. Typical application rate, 3 to 5 PPM metered into sewage flow.

Treatment ponds or chambers should first be treated with a one time “shock dose” of 10 to 15 PPM to acclimatize the aerobic biomass to the effects of the product. Following the shock dose treatment, regular “maintenance doses” of 3 to 5 PPM, metered into the headworks or directly into the basins or chambers, is recommended.

FINAL CLARIFIERS & SLUDGE THICKENERS
EC-4000 may be added at a rate of 3 to 5 PPM to the sewage flow in final clarifiers and sludge thickeners, and may be sprayed in stock or diluted form onto concrete weirs, metal launders, and other components which may contain sulfide producing slime growths.

ANAEROBIC DIGESTERS
EC-4000 can control volatile fatty acid build-up in anaerobic sludge digesters. When used as directed, EC-4000 can increase process stability, reduce odors in sludge discharge, improve methane gas production, and reduce or eliminates the need for supplemental caustics, such as lime, which can precipitate in digester tanks. A shock dose of 15 PPM and maintenance doses of 5 to 8 PPM is recommended. Aerobic sludge digesters can also benefit from EC-4000. Recommended daily application rate 3 to 5 PPM.

SLUDGE DEWATERING & DRYING
Sludge dewatering and drying beds can emit the most objectionable odors. To eliminate or reduce these odors (1) Mix EC-4000 at a rate of 10 PPM into the sludge prior to dewatering (2) spray the surface of sludge in drying beds with a solution consisting of 1 part EC-4000/200 parts water (3) wash down centrifuge etc. with a solution consisting of 1 part EC-4000/200 parts water (4) for land application of sludge mix EC-4000 into the sludge at a rate of 10 PPM prior to injection or surface spreading.

INDUSTRIAL WASTE TREATMENT
Due to the concentrated nature of wastes from food processing, rendering and other industrial operations, wastewater treatment components such as clarifiers, ponds and biological processes can experience oxygen starvation. This can result in the production of organic acids, sulfides and odors. EC-4000 applied at a rate of 10 to 15 PPM can effectively address these problems. For aerated pond systems higher application rates may be required to achieve desired process optimization and odor reduction.

COMPOSTING
Dilute at a rate of 1/50 in water. Apply in a fine spray as waste is formed into static piles or placed in digester. Typical application rate: 1 litre of diluted solution / 1 cubic meter waste.

NOTE:
Each treatment environment is site-specific and operators may need to experiment with application rates and dilution rates to ensure optimum performance. EcoChem can provide advice on technical matters to ensure wastewater operations meet customer expectations.
